  • What is the Black Autism Network?

The Black Autism Network is a non-profit organization that engages in providing resources for parents with children, teens, and adults with autism internationally. We focus on advocacy and empowerment, and how Black people with autism navigate and experience the world, while also providing awareness on autism in general.

  • Objectives

    1. Provide education and awareness about autism, in general. What are some of the common traits of people with autism? Different variations?

    2. Gather research and expertise about how Black children and youth experience autism and any research or progress at that intersection.

    3. Combat negative stigmas among Black people about autism throughout the African diaspora by making available resources for advocates of Black children and youth with autism.

    4. Offer a podcast discussing critical issues facing Black people with autism, centering the work of experts in the field or people who are themselves autistic.

    5. Advocate for earlier diagnosis and support for children and youth with autism.

  • Our Mission

The Black Autism Network seeks to build a global, inclusive community of African people with autism, while helping their allies and families navigate pathways for advocacy, support, and empowerment. We highlight the latest research on how African children and youth, particularly, experience autism differently than other racial groups, in an effort to highlight disparities in research and interventions.
